Made Right with God

Graphic

All of us want to be happy. We all want to know that we meet the standard that is set. What happens though, when you feel like you don’t measure up?

If you are a follower of Jesus, you know that the grace of God saves you. There is nothing you can do to earn it. Yet, once you begin following Jesus, so much of your time is spent earning more of God’s love and favor.

The truth is, you can’t do anything to get any more of God’s love and approval and grace than He has already given you.

But what if, you want to be made right with God? What happens when you discover you are broken and you can’t fix yourself? How are you made right with God? How do you stay right with God? Do you do something? Work harder? Be better? Clean yourself up?

Sunday, as we continue our series Changewe’re going to look at Galatians 2:15 – 21 and what is a paradox of Christianity: you are forgiven by grace, you are sustained in your relationship with God through His grace and you do not nothing to attain this grace. It is freely given to you.

About this passage, Martin Luther said this:

This is the truth of the gospel. It is also the principal article of all Christian doctrine, wherein the knowledge of all godliness consisteth. Most necessary it is, therefore, that we should know this article well, teach it unto others, and beat it into their heads continually.’ In other places he refers to it as the ‘chief’, the ‘chiefest’ and ‘the most principal and special article of Christian doctrine’, for it is this doctrine ‘which maketh true Christians indeed’. He adds: ‘if the article of justification be once lost, then is all true Christian doctrine lost.’

This is by far, one of the most crucial passages in the entire book of Galatians, and a truth, if we miss, we will miss out on the life God calls us to live.

If you or someone you know has a hard time believing that God can forgive them, that they don’t have to earn God’s love or that will continue to forgive them and work in their life, this is a great week to bring them to Revolution.

Remember, we meet at 10am on Sunday mornings at 8300 E Speedway Blvd.

Change Starts in 1 Week!

What is something everyone needs, but few know how to get?

And usually when we need it… it’s too late.

Some people make more rules, trying to force it. Others give up because it seems too hard or just out of reach.

It’s discipline, perseverance, it’s daily choices, both big and small. It’s not impossible, but it’s not easy.

No matter what it is, what we all need is Change.

Join us at Revolution Church this sunday as we kick off Change.

Monday Morning Mind Dump…

mind dump

  • The season that Revolution Church is in and the season that I am in personally is one of those seasons that you hope for.
  • Yesterday, Katie and I celebrated 12 years of marriage.
  • Hard to believe it’s been 12 years already.
  • It was fun reminiscing about life with her.
  • Really excited for our anniversary date day tomorrow.
  • Got lots of fun things planned.
  • We had almost 300 people yesterday @ Revolution for the 3rd week in a row.
  • Love seeing all the guests and people taking next steps.
  • Praying that we break 400 on Easter.
  • Speaking of Easter, I am so excited about the people taking the next step of getting baptized on Easter.
  • If that’s a next step you’d like to take, go here.
  • Yesterday’s sermon felt like more of a soapbox sermon for me.
  • I unpacked what Revolution Church believes about the gospel and how to share the gospel.
  • With all the talk about being “gospel centered” or “talking about the gospel enough” or “correctly” I think it’s important to define what that means.
  • Those terms while nice aren’t very helpful.
  • If you missed it, you can listen to it here.
  • I challenged our church to pray 30 minutes each day between Palm Sunday and Easter and we had 75 people take the challenge.
  • That’s 259 hours of people praying.
  • So excited to see how God will work through that.
  • I’m hoping to have an exciting announcement about my book in the next week.
  • Stay tuned for that!
  • Taking my boys to the air show next Saturday with some guys from our MC.
  • Excited to take it all in with them.
  • They are going to be blown away.
  • I’ve been making some changes to my schedule and the people at Revolution that I spend my time with so that I’m intentionally developing leaders.
  • Love the fruit that has come from that so far.
  • I’m afraid too many pastors let their schedule happen to them instead of the other way around. I know I did for years.
  • Working on my talk for exponential this week. If you’d like to give some input on it, go here.
  • I’m excited about spending a few days with Mike DeAlto in Orlando.
  • I’ve been working the last few weeks on my Easter sermon and getting ready for our next series on the book of Galatians.
  • I think it is going to be an eye opening series for our church as we talk about grace, law, legalism, moralism and how being a good person isn’t enough to make you right with God.
  • Time to get back to it…

Giving It All I Have

Graphic

Ever feel like the life you want is just out of your reach? You know what it looks like, you can feel it, but you can’t get to it.

This week, as we continue our series All In we will look be looking at Luke 10:25 – 37, at a very familiar story for many people and seeing what Jesus says about the life we long to live and how to get there.

In one conversation, Jesus answers the question of how someone finds life. Not just answering the question about eternal life, but how does one find a life worth getting up for in the morning? How do we find a life that is full of adventure, passion and risk? One that at the end of our life, we will know that it mattered.

Think for a minute, what if you could live the life God has called you to live? Imagine being able to be the kind of person others wanted to have around, a person others were thankful to know because of the way you impacted those around you.

If you or someone you know feels aimless in their life, struggles to see how God could use their one and only life, this is a great week to bring them to Revolution.

Remember, we meet at 10am on Sunday mornings at 8300 E Speedway Blvd.

All In Starts in 2 Weeks!

Graphic

Everyone wants their lives to matter, yet most people live in obscurity and rarely accomplish what God created them to accomplish.

Why?
The risk is great, but the payoff is even greater.
But what happens when a group of people go all in and put it all on the line for Jesus?
A world is changed.
Join us at Revolution Church as we spend 4 weeks leading up to Easter and look at how to go all in so that our lives matter and we see others live the life God created them to live.

March 30: Giving All I’ve Got

You Are One Choice Away from Wrecking Your Life

book

Only 2 weeks left in our series Fight and you don’t want to miss either of them.

As we continue this week and look at Judges 16:1 – 22 we see how our choices matter. Most of us make decisions everyday: what to eat, who to spend time with, what to buy, what shows or movies to watch, what to read or what websites to visit. We make these decisions often with very little thought about how they will affect our lives.

Yet, every choice impacts another choice.

Which leads us to a simple truth that we will unpack this Sunday: you are one choice away from wrecking your life.

The question is, how close are you to that choice?

If you or someone you know struggles with making right choices in their life or keeping boundaries in their life, this is a great week to bring them to Revolution.

Remember, we meet at 10am on Sunday mornings at 8300 E Speedway Blvd.

Monday Morning Mind Dump…

mind dump

  • What a week
  • Yesterday was one of those sermons that is hard to preach but is part of the series because it is the next passage
  • This can be one of the blessings and curses of expository preaching
  • I preached on the riddle Samson told in Judges 14-15
  • I’ve been loving the deep dive we are doing into the life of Samson
  • Definitely challenging me as a man
  • If you missed yesterday, you can listen to it here
  • I announced yesterday that we have hired a search firm to help us find the right leader
  • So excited about what this means for Revolution Church
  • I was asked why we’re hiring a search firm and the answer is simple, “This position is too important to get this hire wrong”
  • We have needed a full-time, high capacity leader in Planet Rev for a couple of years
  • I’m so grateful for Jennifer Ingram and the team she leads and how they have gotten us to this point
  • I also love seeing the excitement among the leaders of Planet Rev about the possibility of what this leader will bring to our church and the families we serve
  • Please add this to your prayer list
  • And if you or someone you know should be considered for this role, please let me know
  • I am really excited about the next series at Revolution called All In
  • We’re going to spend the 4 weeks leading up to Easter looking at how to change the world and make your one and only life count
  • I’m hopeful I can get back to doing Crossfit this week
  • Definitely have missed that over the past week after my procedure
  • Last monday I got a vasectomy, so that totally changed how I normally do things
  • Hopeful that this week will be more normal and routine
  • I like my routine
  • If you are a leader, I recently read two books you have to add to your list: People Pleasing Pastors by Charles Stone and Hacking Leadership: The 11 Gaps Every Business Needs to Close and the Secrets to Closing Them Quickly by Mike Myatt
  • Both books are off the charts good and are easily the two best books I’ve read so far this year
  • My agent is meeting with a publisher today about the next step in the process for my book
  • Say a prayer as this is an important meeting

  • If you’re curious, we’ll be going through Galatians for Change
  • Time to get to it

The One Question Every Man (and Woman) Must Answer

book

So far, Fight has been incredible as we have looked at the battles every man (and woman) fight to live the life God created them to live. If you missed either of the first two weeks, you can listen to them here and here.

This week, we will be looking at the the one question every man (and woman) must answer.

In Judges 14:11 – 15:20 (which you can look at if you want to read ahead), we see what drives Samson. All of us, whether we realize it or not, are driven by something. It might be a past memory or hurt, it might be a parent we want to please or be better than, it might be a spouse we want to make happy, it might be kids or a teacher we want to be proud of us. For many, it is their emotions that drive their decisions, habits, relationships and how they spend their money and time.

If we aren’t careful, we allow the wrong things to drive us.

Here’s one way to know:

When you look at your life and don’t like where something is? It might be your finances, school, career, a relationship, weight or your whole life. In that moment, if something is not where you think it should be, you have answered the one question incorrectly. You have allowed something other than Jesus to drive your life.

But it isn’t too late!

If you or someone you know struggles with answering this one question incorrectly, this is a great week to bring them to Revolution.

(I also have a really exciting announcement about the future of Revolution Church and Planet Rev, our kids ministry, that you don’t want to miss!)

Remember, we meet at 10am on Sunday mornings at 8300 E Speedway Blvd.
