The Big Night

The Big Night idea is something I picked up in my coaching network with Nelson Searcy and through his book Ignite. The idea around the big night “is to create an all-out push where you encourage your church to do the invite part of the invest and invite strategy toward a single weekend for the purpose of breaking the next growth barrier and setting an attendance record in order to reach as many people as possible for Jesus.”

As a staff team, we recently spent some time working through Nelson Searcy’s seminar on the big night to try to figure out how best to use this strategy at Revolution.

While we create our services in such a way that we want you to bring people any week (and people do) and you should feel comfortable bringing someone with you on any week, there are certain weeks through the year that are strategic in that area:  February, Easter weekend, the month after school starts.

By doing several big nights throughout the year, we are able to keep our friends in front of our church at all times. We are able to be planning, praying and thinking about who we can invite by reminding our church that people don’t know Jesus. Sadly, this is easy to forget the longer you follow Jesus.

As a church, when we set a goal for a big day, we can be praying towards that goal. We see God increase our prayer, our faith, our excitement and anticipation about what He is going to do in our lives, our church and in the lives of those who will be impacted by a big day.

The goal is to spend time praying and thinking about who you are building relationships with and then when you feel the right moment, invite them to the big day. The big night will either start a series or be in a series that will speak specifically to a not yet Christian in a way that makes sense to them.

We will also have invite cards as a way to make it easier for each of us to invite our friends, leave them around the office and post them at different spots around the city.
