Thoughts from the Road

Over the past few weeks, I have made several road trips. Visiting family and friends in Chicago, Kansas City, and Denver. This has provided much time to read and come up with some new rants. First off, Kansas has to be one of the worst states to drive through. It is so boring.

No Perfect People Allowed by John Burke was a great read. His chapters on world religions and homosexuality really resonated with where I am and had the best answers I have heard from a Christian on these issues.

Communicating for a Change by Andy Stanley. I love it when leaders and authors show their cards and give away some of their secrets. That is what this book is. It is a play by play in how Andy Stanley prepares and gives a message. There was nothing that was revolutionary that most speakers don’t intuitively know, but it was a great reminder and was good to hear how one of the best communicators in the church does it.

Confessions of a Reformission Rev. by Mark Driscoll. This is a play by play of the history and life of Mars Hill Church in Seattle. The joys and pain of not only being a pastor, but of starting a church. The honesty is refreshing and getting an inside look on how things have been for Mark was just good to hear.
